Trama
Jeff Bailey runs a gas station and dreams of a quiet life with Ann. But there is no escaping the past. His real name is Markham and years before he worked in New York as a detective, together with his partner Jack Fisher. Nick Sterling, a man with shady deals, had tasked him with finding the fascinating and dangerous Kitty Maffin, but, instead of bringing her back to Nick, he fell in love with her and ran away with her. The relationship ended when Kitty killed Fisher, who had managed to track them down. But now Kitty has returned to Nick, who gives Jeff a new assignment: to recover compromising papers from a San Francisco lawyer. Jeff realizes that the lawyer will be murdered and that he himself will be accused of the crime. He tries to outwit him, but it's too late. He hasn't taken into account the unpredictable Kitty, whose plans don't coincide with those of Nick.
